That convergence of environmental cleanup, strategic supply, and commercial viability is rare in critical minerals development, and it is almost certainly why this particular investment survived the rupture with Pretoria.

Breaking China's stranglehold on rare earth supply will take at least a decade, experts consistently note. Projects like Phalaborwa are the incremental steps that make that decade shorter.
